Frosh Week – What you need to know about Frosh Week

Congratulations for securing an admission to study at one of the Canadian universities. Truly, it is a great feat and worth celebrating. However, I am sure that most freshmen are still thinking about what to expect when they finally start their classes.

Perhaps, you might have come up with a perfectly outlined timetable for your studies. Bravo! You are taking the right step and I can assure you that, with dedication, focus, and hard work, you are just few steps away from academic excellence.

Nevertheless, there is an event that most of you might not be aware of in Canadian Universities, which is mainly for the freshmen. The program is called“Frosh Week”.

I suggest you find yourself a comfortable seat as we discuss everything in relation to“Frosh Week.”

What is Frosh Week?

According to UrbanDictionary, Frosh Week is defined as the most radical and exciting week of a college freshman’s life in Canada. It allows freshmen to go party with their colleagues, have some cups of drinks together, engage in cheesy dance routines, attend concerts, and play games.

For you to participate in the Frosh Week, you might have to pay a Orientation Week Fee, depends on the school you are attending and you will have access to one of the best treats you can ever imagine. In some schools, the freshmen go on buffet party for two Saturdays while some schools even go as far as visiting a museum or hiking a badger mountain.

Well, because of the global pandemic outbreak, this year’s Frosh Week (2020) is going to be a bit different from the usual frosh week we’ve always had. No thanks to COVID-19 for disrupting many plans and activities.

However, I will just advice you to keep in touch with your school and the organizing committee of Frosh Week in your university. Trust me, frosh Week is not something you will want to miss.

Is Frosh Week Overrated or not?

Frosh Week is an event that almost no student will want to miss. I think the way some students in the U.S admire the event makes it more popular. Despite the fact that Frosh Week aims at bringing students together and making them wax off the anxieties that might have been brewed and bottled in their minds, it is worth noting that Frosh week can also take a toll on your body.

There is a popular saying that if you are not informed, there is a higher chance that you will deform. For you not to deform and for the Frosh Week not to have on your academics, this article will help you out. The way you spend your first 2-3 months at the university, as a freshman, matters a lot. Since the Frosh Week program, always, occur around this time too, I think it is wise if you could draw out a well-detailed plan about how you could strike balance between your social and academic lifestyles. Some freshmen usually have to pick up the option of working part-time while studying and this can also take a toll on them during their first year in school. Here is an article to help you plan your job and school life in the university.

Personally, I do not think that the Frosh Week program is overrated. To be honest, I think many freshmen need to understand the advantages and benefits that come with the Frosh Week activities. All work and no play, they say, make Jack a dull boy. I am sure you don’t want to be a dull “Jack”. If you don’t want to, then you need to dance away your sorrow, relax your minds, and network with your class mates and senior colleagues, and you can easily get this through the Frosh Week event.

Should I Attend the Frosh Week?

Well, some freshmen have asked me this question so many times. Well, I do not think there is a specific answer to this question. It all boils down to your profile and preference. If you think your academic performance won’t be affected by the Frosh Week activities, then you are good to go! However, if you doubt your ability to strike balance between social lifestyle and academic, I think you have to go for your utmost priority.

In as much as I will advise you to always mingle with your colleagues at the Frosh Week activities and widen your networks, it should not be at a detriment to your number one goal at the university, which is to acquire knowledge.

What to wear to the Frosh Week?

Dress appropriately and smartly! Take a deep thought and imagine a situation where you wear a suit to hike mountains. How does it sound? I am sure your answer is “what the hell?” Depending on the tradition of your school, you may jump into a fountain or have your whole body dyed with dirty colours. One thing that is common with the Frosh Week event among all the Canadian universities is that you are going to get wet and dirty. Therefore, it is advisable that you wear a very comfortable cloth, a pair of shoes, and smart backpack.
