Is encyclopedia.com a reliable academic source? I've been trying to write books and articles and I'm trying to use it to get some facts and ideas to write.

No not really, they just put together various individual entries from people. But certainly, the website is for students and researchers to find more information. It's all all to them to do further research to make sure what they've found on encyclopedia is credible.
