Hi guys. So I'll be applying to both Schulich and Ivey which can be very competitive. I do have plans to take SHSM program for Business in grade 12, perhaps it could help my application.

My question is- Do universities care about SHSM? and would having SHSM help my application?
In general, is SHSM worth it?

Universities don't really care about the SHSM unless you are able to write some convincing facts in your essays about how it has helped you as a student. Like any extra curricular, it's all about the spin you put on it and how well you can write about it.

I took SHSM when I was in grade 11 and I was lucky to be among many conferences at that time because of my enrolment in the SHSM, but to be honest with you, it doesn't really matter on your application. You can consider it only if you are lacking in extra curriculum activities.

What is SHSM?
SHSM ( Specialist High Skills Major ) is a Ministry of Education approved program in Ontario provided to students to help them earn more credits while working towards their OSSD ( Ontario Secondary School Diploma ). Students will also be allowed to practise and learn a wide range of career-focused programs at the same time.

Oh I see. I'm from BC I guess that's why I'm not familiar with that.

Honestly, shsm doesn't matter because uni's dont really care about it but the coop experiences you have may be good

Universities won’t even know you have taken shsm. I’m a shsm student myself and as far as I know, Guelph university is the only university that gives some consideration to shsm
