Cars are used for transporting people, goods, luggage and some other things from one place to another. We have different problems that are associated with cars such as worn-out tire, brake pad problem, etc. However, one of the most expensive and dangerous problems that may occur to any car is engine failure. Engine failure means that the engine, which is like the brain of a car, refuses to work.

In this thread, we will discuss some of the things that might cause engine failure and some of the ways of preventing or solving this problem.

So, let's dive into it.

1. Insufficient lubrication: I can liken this to a man that eats large chunk of food but refuses to drink water. What will happen? He might experience some difficulties in his throat or even something worse. In engine, the oil serves as water needed for lubrication. Without engine oil or proper lubrication, there will be wear and tear and the engine will fail or stop working. To improve the efficiency of your car, kindly make use of synthetic engine oil because of its high viscosity.

Moreover, endeavor to always put the engine oil or the lubricant in the oil filter before inserting it during oil change.
This is expedient because the engine bucket or sump delivers oil to the oil-pump which is then passed through oil filter before getting into the engine. If the oil filter is new, it will take a little time for oil to get to the oil filter and then, the engine. This delay makes the engine to lose necessary lubrication during the starting of a car which results in wear and tear.

2. Regular replacement of engine time belt and its components: Since the timing belt controls the intake and the exhaust valves that are necessary for combustion strokes, it is important to always change it as and when due. This is encouraged because if the timing belt cuts or slips due to wear and tear, a catastrophic engine failure might occur.

3. Replace the water pump when necessary: Another important step to take is to always replace the water pump of a car as and when due. I think you should have heard about overheating. Normally, water pump supplies water to the engine system to cool it off. However, when the water pump stops working, the temperature in the engine rises above the recommended temperature and thus, burn the gasket and damage other components of engine, leading to engine failure.

4. Check your thermostat regularly: What thermostat does is to regulate the flow of heated coolant and fresh coolant intake of an engine. If thermostat isn't working or worn out, there will be overheating which in turn causes engine failure.

To sum up, always try as much as possible to check the radiator cap for wear and tear. If the radiator cap is bad, it won;t be able to maintain the pressure needed to prevent the engine from overheating. So, you are strongly advised to always to check the radiator cap and replace it when necessary
